IntroductionUpdates of 11 th SCBA International Symposium at San Francisco, CA Wednesday, July 19 – Sunday, July 23, 2006 Hyatt Regency Hotel, San Francisco 5 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, California, 94111 USA Meeting website: http://www.scba2006.org Organization’s meeting in USA marks exciting time for global bioscientistsThe 11 th International Symposium of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America ( SCBA) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 5 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, CA July 19 - 23, 2006. This SCBA meeting is being held back in USA after three consecutive symposia abroad in Hong Kong (1999), Taipei (2001) and Beijing (2004). This meeting is organized by SCBA as well as several distinguished co-sponsors. SCBA also anticipates that many institutes as well as industrial corporate supporters will join as co-sponsors of this exciting meeting with over 1,000 participants attending. There will be four workshops in each of the eightscientific themes for this meeting: - Biotech and Biopharmaceuticals, The scientific schedule is shown in the following pages & meeting website This meeting will feature Professor Aaron Ciechanover (2004 Nobel Laureate) and Peter Agre (2003 Nobel Laureate), various academy members from the U.S. and Chinese National Academy of Sciences and Academia Sinica of Taiwan and about 200 invited speakers who are doing cutting-edge research in biological, biomedical and biotechnological sciences. These scientists will present their data and hypothesis in four plenary sessions and 36 different workshops. SCBA also anticipates about 100 - 150 poster presentations from scientists and investigators from all different parts of the world. There will be 3 workshops on Wednesday afternoon 2:00 – 5:30 pm at the Conference Hotel before the Opening Reception (6:00 – 10:00 pm) at the San Francisco Historical Post-office Atrium which is only one block away from the Hyatt Regency Hotel (~3/5 minute walk across Market Street). A Special evening Workshop on “ Upward mobility in industrial and academic careers” will be held Thursday evening (7:00- 9:30 pm) July 20, 2006. There will also be three “ Technology Showcase” workshops during lunch time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 21 – 23, 2006) and industrial experts will present their latest kits, products and new technologies. Complimentary luncheon will only be served and provided free to Technology Showcase Workshop attendants. A 90-min Chinese Cultural Entertainment will be held in the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Regency Hotel featuring some of the best well-known Chinese singers and musicians, mingled with a magic show and a challenge to SCBA member singing groups from different global regions led by Mien-chie Hung and Savio Woo. 2006 Annual SCBA Council meeting will be held on Saturday evening.
